Healy and Palepu (2012) expressed that organizations with the assistance of compelling web based showcasing can advance their items and increment their ability to arrive at likely clients. Be that as it may, Oberholzer (2013) scrutinizes that any progressions in expected interest could adversely influence the real benefits and hamper money stores of the new pursuit. Moreover, Fanny couldn't exploit charge exclusions, as she will put her own capital in the new Choc-O-Lay branch. In this specific situation, Hormann and Schabert (2015) referenced that anticipated accounting report for the most part help speculators to assess the all out venture capital that will be required in the new pursuit. At the point when the extraordinary misery hit individuals no longer had the advantage of paying to watch games. This was the introduction of university games on the middle stage for not at all like elite athletics groups, schools could offer competitors something extremely valuable consequently; training. The arrangement was straightforward, one all costs paid advanced degree as a byproduct of select rights on each move the competitor made. From the unaided eye it would show up the competitor was accepting a reasonable exchange. In any case, in the event that you look carefully enough you will see that the day these competitors sign their name on the dabbed line they are sentencing themselves to get that is practically indistinguishable from a craftsman without inventive control or rights to his own music. The nation over school sports have become an enormous undertaking and have genuinely changed from serious amusing to an all out multi-billion dollar business. We will compose a custom paper test on The Great Injustice of College Athletics or on the other hand any comparable theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page While numerous individuals accept that school competitors, specifically school football and ball players, are ruined and disgraceful of what theyââ¬â¢ve been given, actually these competitors do a lot for their schools. Division 1 football and b-ball players are set under direct physical and mental mischief, don't possess the energy for work since they are compelled to give such a great amount of time to their game, get a huge number of dollars to their colleges and have the right to be better made up for their endeavors. Presently I am not campaigning for schools to have the option to pay players anyway much they need to on the grounds that that would wreck the game considering just the most extravagant college could ever land great volunteers. Notwithstanding, it appears to be reasonable that school ball and football players ought to get in any event a little cut of the benefits that they reel into the school. As I would see it somewhere close to 10 to 20 thousand dollars a year would be a sensible payment for these competitors. From the start felt that number may appear to be to some degree incredible, however consider that the lowest pay permitted by law pay of an all day work is $15,080 (UC Davis). I know by and by that there is no conceivable path for a football player to get a vocation while in season and very troublesome in the slow time of year too. In a common day a player will go through two hours lifting, four hours of training and film, and afterward on that the player is a full time understudy. It is reasonable that other understudy competitors manage comparably bustling calendars; the thing that matters is that they are not working for an association that makes a benefit. While one could consider most understudy competitors like volunteers, football and ball players are in certainty workers. They are exclusively answerable for getting cash but then are not similarly remunerated in kind. Clearly football and b-ball players get a huge number of dollars to the colleges that they join in, however hardly any individuals really comprehend the huge imbalance in appropriation of the cash. As indicated by the New York Times football and ball acquire more than 6 billion dollars of income every year (Nocera). Schools all things considered burn through 800 million dollars a year paying for football and b-ball grants and other resulting expenses to players, for example, travel, garbs, and so on. (Wilbon). This implies the players liable for everything are just accepting 13. 3% of the benefits that they get. These colleges are money bovines and are taking the cash others are gaining. Fans don't go to games to watch the college, or to see the mentors, rather they go to the games to watch the players perform. At that point, to feel that these competitors, who are freely examined and reprimanded and assume all the fault for each game they lose, are just given a pitiful 1/eighth of the cash they win is incredible. In addition to the fact that it is out of line that the individuals bringing in the cash get under 14% of the income however it is entirely unlawful. I would prefer not to state it is a type of servitude in light of the fact that clearly that would be a distortion, yet it is the nearest thing to it. As per the calling donning rules, these players are required to go through three years out of secondary school before they can go into the NFL and at any rate one year before entering the NBA. These competitors are actually constrained into ââ¬Å"workingâ⬠for the colleges and consequently get the littlest cut of the compensation. It would be a certain something if competitors had the chance to ââ¬Å"take it or leave itâ⬠as far as tolerating a school grant, yet it is something different completely when the competitor has no other decision. They are not deciding to go get training; they are tolerating the way that it is their solitary chance to keep playing the game they love. Individuals erroneously expect that these school players are inept and dissatisfied for training when they perform ineffectively in school. Nonetheless, from the point of view of a youthful competitor, a school grant isn't a chance yet rather a sentence. In a jail the objective is to change a criminal by showing him aptitudes and afterward sending them out the door. If you somehow managed to be sent to a jail can you genuinely state you would fill in as hard as you could to develop yourself? No, you would do the absolute minimum and simply get the most delight out of your time and leave. By removing an athleteââ¬â¢s option to pick an advanced degree they dismiss the estimation of a degree and accordingly there is little significance equipped towards getting training. The NCAA passed a managed confining any school competitors from getting any kind of supports or backers of any sort. That may be worthy in the event that it was not for the way that there is no standard keeping universities from tolerating a huge number of dollars in supports every single year. Not exclusively is it unfathomably misleading and wrong yet it additionally happens to be unlawful to assume acknowledgment and cash from another personââ¬â¢s trademark. However universities keep on piling on gigantic measures of cash because of publicizing, none of which is ever observed by the players liable for the supports in any case. Numerous rivals of paying school competitors are probably going to express something to the degree of, ââ¬Å"So what? They should be appreciative that they get a free advanced degree when such a large number of different understudies are compelled to take care of themselves or do without. While on a superficial level an announcement like this may appear to be reasonable, it can't be paid attention to as a result of the overlooked certainty that those players have earned that cash. No one would disclose to Bill Gates, ââ¬Å"Hey I realize you earned 100 billion dollars yet you just need 1 million reason that is as of now more than every other pe rson has. â⬠indeed, individuals see the accomplishment of billions, for example, Bill Gates as honorable and very much wanted. The American culture venerates and fixates on the fantasy about trying sincerely and becoming quite wealthy. But such a large number of individuals rush to pass judgment on competitors saying they are selfish for what they have been and not the slightest bit want more. It seems as though individuals expect competitors have not buckled down for the position they are in. While the facts confirm that a specific piece of physicality is hereditary, it is likewise evident that competitors buckle down every single day to keep up top state of being which is no simple undertaking. A valid statement made in the New York Times was that these schools are getting such a lot of cash however they don't need to spend any of it on promoting or publicizing or some other costs (Nocera). This implies the colleges are actually simply stashing all the money for themselves and paying for their school structures and different peopleââ¬â¢s pay rates and grants with it. Another contradicting contention is state that it isn't reasonable for different games that football and b-ball as of now get the most pleasant offices and would get paid cash others would not. In any case, the resistance neglects to understand some key focuses. Football and b-ball are the main games that ââ¬Å"pay their own wayâ⬠and each other game draws over 90% of their assets from the football and b-ball programs (Wilbon). Accordingly, they have positively no option to ever get frantic at these projects on the grounds that without the football and ball groups their grants and subsidizing would totally vanish. An ESPN investigation and co-host of PTI put it when by saying, ââ¬Å"Not everything is equivalent, not all things are reasonable. The most recognized educator at the University of Alabama wont make $5. 9 million in his whole residency in Tuscaloosa; Nick Saban will make that this year. So I dont need to hear that its uncalled for to pay the quarterback of Alabama more than all the humanism understudies in the undergrad collegeâ⬠(Wilbon). Does it not bode well for the individuals who purchase the cake to get the greatest cut or get the opportunity to bring home all the extras? There is clearly enough cash to accommodate all the games programs and furthermore all that anyone could need left over for the school to procure it in. For some school competitors who originate from poor financial foundations, the cash given for grant and everyday costs isn't sufficient to endure. AJ Enno, a previous understudy competitor, remarked on his involvement in school installment by saying, ââ¬Å"As a previous undergrad, I can bear witness to that colleges dont consistently store the advance cash when they shouldâ⬠(Enno). Not exclusively are players not having their requirements met however the assets they get are frequently late and hard to get. As per NCAA guidelines schools are permitted to pay a limit of $1000 every month for understudy everyday costs. Be that as it may, the more prominent larger part of schools don't pay their competitors the full allowance every month as it relies upon numerous factors, such Chana Thibodeauxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985084023549676495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721647199429662914.post-1926528876908850882020-08-22T20:41:00.001-07:002020-08-22T20:41:10.972-07:00Muhammad Ali Essays - Boxing, Sports, English-language FilmsMuhammad Ali Muhammad Ali, initially Cassius Marcellus Clay, in the course of his life got truly outstanding and most questionable games figures ever. His forthright disposition and commitment to the Muslim religion made him a good example for some individuals. Maybe the most astonishing thing he did was changing is name to Muhammad Ali after turning into a Muslim. Ali, at that point despite everything passing by Cassius Clay, first came to world consideration in 1960, when he won the Olympic light-heavyweight title. A portion of the restrictions acquainted by this period are with be considered ââ¬Å"vitalâ⬠as they manage the significant human qualities. The rundown of the works known to be the best portrayals of the Victorian world standpoint is exceptionally long; in any case a few works are to be featured. Resistance is the center of Stevensonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydeâ⬠. Its exceptional goals and the battle of two powers has become the exemplification of duality. Another attempts to specify is Mrs. Gaskellââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"North and Southâ⬠. Being founded on a logical inconsistency the bookââ¬â¢s characters battle inside the entire book so as to accomplish the harmony between the rival sides. These two works don't talk just about the duality of the material world yet of the profound world which now and then gives the impression of their insolubility. Both of the books manage accommodating these restrictions, and their accommodate end up having a ton of normal viewpoints. Being so not the same as one another, they hence become a ton the same, for the message they are conveying is an incredible same: a distinction of an individual from standard society delegates causes this individual unimaginable sufferings. Both of the books are the battle of distinction against the general public and the standards that it obtrudes however in any case there is something more to both of themâ⬠¦ The restriction between the longing to appear as something else and the need to resemble everyone make an ideal base for the battle both in ââ¬Å"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydeâ⬠and ââ¬Å"North and Southâ⬠. North and Southâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydeâ⬠examination Essay Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Stevensonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydeâ⬠is a production of the resistance of two otherworldly characters. Fundamentally, it approaches the ââ¬Å"mutationâ⬠that Dr. Jekyllââ¬â¢s character experiences. Through the narrative of Dr. Jeky ll the creator discusses the ââ¬Å"unrevealedâ⬠side of the general public. The examination of the profound setting of the book carries the peruser to the understanding that Dr. Jekyllââ¬â¢s guile is only the exemplification of social issues. Everyone sees Dr. Jekyll as a fine researcher, a rich, regarded man. He comprehends the inconceivability to uncover his unnerving and repulsive second character. Society would not have affirmed Mr. Hyde, no one would have adored him. In any case, Mr. Hyde is a piece of Dr. Jekyll. What's more, that is the genuine catastrophe. Dr. Jekyllââ¬â¢s endeavors to control his ââ¬Å"personality conditionsâ⬠with a unique medication is an endeavor to accommodate these two restrictions that live within him. ââ¬Å"Gentlemen like me must be exceptionally cautious about what we do or sayâ⬠, says Dr. Jekyll and to be sure he is correct. The account of Dr. Jekyll is the tale of a fruitless endeavor to kill the rival sides, as Dr. Jekyll passes on. The epic additionally uncovers that the upper society classes do likewise have ââ¬Å"dark sidesâ⬠and are not ââ¬Å"socially perfectâ⬠as it was placed in the time of the book creation. Regardless of what an individual is a major part of his life he despite everything stays a basic human, regardless of what an individual is by all accounts â⬠he will in any case have different sides of a character, on the off chance that he can't be what he truly is: fortunate or unfortunate. The general public doesn't permit it and it delivers a battle! ââ¬Å"North and Southâ⬠Gaskellââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"North and Southâ⬠has a great deal to do with restrictions, as well. The primary courageous woman Margaret Hale has an example of regular day to day existence that she has had while living in Helstone in the south of England. This is s story of the logical inconsistencies that the young lady faces as she moves from agrarian Helstone to industrialized Milton. This is the logical inconsistency between the existence that she has known in the South and the existence she faces in the North. This is additionally a battle of the qualities, which contrast in two distinct pieces of the nation. The correspondence of the South proselytes into the nonappearance of rights in the North. The book additionally restricts two unique sentiments of the courageous woman. Having a place with the class of laborers she is against their destitution and the manner in which they are treated at the plant, simultaneously she is infatuated with the proprietor of the factory. This believers into the showdown of two distinctive social classes. The insolubility of every one of these resistances makes the courageous woman need to return to the old routes in Helstone. In any case, when she doesâ⬠¦ She understands that everything changes and that her lifestyle isn't the main conceivable and flawless one. She accommodates the restrictions with the attention to accomplishing the parity through being able to help the ââ¬Å"poorâ⬠individuals, even now having a place with the privileged. The peruser likewise faces the restriction of the privileged cold-bloodedness and the understanding that there individuals inside the class that would like to be evenhanded. The idea of strains of the books It isn't unexpected to see that both of the book have normal viewpoints and the essential parts obviously the social one. The both arrangement with the fundamental Victorian ââ¬Å"discoveriesâ⬠. Stevensonââ¬â¢s: One individual, being a strong animal may even now have two unique parts, two inverse personalities, that battle for acquiring control over the individual. It is the resistance of what an individual is by all accounts, satisfying the social standards and what he is as a general rule. Gaskellââ¬â¢s: One nation, being a strong region may at present have two unique and even inverse lifestyles, contingent upon the piece of the nation. The ââ¬Å"North and Southâ⬠additionally represents the resistance of two distinct classes, having a place with these two restricting lifestyles â⬠the agrarian and the mechanical one. Both of the books are certainly a piece of a similar society. It is a general public in its endeavor to accommodate from the resistances that are destroying it, obliterating its pith. These Victorian works are the result of the general public understanding the shortcoming of its social perspectives: class contrasts, social standards, and its craving to place everything in projections, which are ââ¬Å"sociableâ⬠or as it were satisfactory for watching. The general public restricts itself in both of the books. Both of the books are calls for accomplishing equalization and congruity; Victorian calls for changing the view of the world. For some students, you will be offered a place on our wait list. Every year our office has to predict approximately how many students we can admit in order to enroll our freshman class, but we can never be sure how many students will enroll until after the May 1 commitment deposit deadline has passed. If the number of students who say they will be attending UGA is lower than we expect, we may need to go to our wait list group in order to get the size that we want for our freshman class. This year we have just over 1,200 students on the wait list. We carefully monitor the deposits coming into the University to see where we are in comparison to the predicted freshman numbers. The FAQ can answer information on Wait List numbers, past year Wait List data, and other details (such as no, the Wait List is not ranked). For those of you who have been wait-listed, here is a chance for you to ask questions. Please remember that this is not a blog where you should post statistics or throw fellow classmates under the bus. These types of comments will be deleted. Before commenting/asking questions here, please review the decision letter and the FAQ, as they give a great deal of details of the Wait List process. TheWait List FAQcan answer some questions, but the most important thing you need to do is decide if you want to remain on the wait list. Follow the instructions on the status check to let us know if you want to stay on the wait list or if you want to decline this option and move forward with admission at another college. If you decide to stay on the wait list, you should still move forward with an alternate college plan as we will not know about any wait list options until May at the earliest. If you select to stay on the wait list, we will know that you still want to attend UGA if an opportunity opens up. The key word in wait list is wait as this is not a quick process. So please be prepared to wait. There are three options for the wait list reply. You can say no, please do not consider me for the wait list. The next option is to remain on the wait list, but only if it is for the Fall term. The third option is to remain on the wait list and be considered for both Fall and Spring terms. This is so that if there is space available for the Fall term, we will look at all of the students who have asked to remain on the wait list. If the only space available is for Spring term, we will only look at students who said Fall or Spring. Once you select an option, you cannot change it so be sure to think about your decision before you make your selection. Things to Remember: UGA does not use the GPA from a HS transcript, but instead we calculate our own HS GPA based on core academic courses. In our holistic review, we also look at grade trends. UGA looks closely at academic rigor, specifically what a student will take over four years as compared to what is available. This is not based simply on the number of AP/IB/DE courses, but instead we look at the overall coursework over four years and the progression of rigor over those four years. When we are looking at activities in the holistic review (clubs, sports, pt work, artistic activities, etc.), we are looking at depth and time commitment in these areas in addition to the actual organizations. We will not know details about the wait list until after May 15, and it may be well well into June before we make wait list decisions. Please be patient with our office and read the FAQ before asking questions as it can give you a great deal of information. If you do not feel like you can wait until mid-May through mid-June for a decision, it may be that the wait list option is not for you. Adidas is largely engaged with the sport industry, offering customers widespread selection of sport equipments. Adidas segmented its market into three main divisions Sport Performance, Sport Heritage and Sport Style. Company has its market extensive increase in Europe, US and Asia with approximately 150 continents (www.adidasgroup.com). Adidas aim to get better their quality, look, feel, and representation of their product in order to surpass consumer expectations and to provide them with the highest value, thereby helping athletes of all kinds to achieve zenith performance in their various fields. Adidas mostly invest in the sport market and increasing its profitability. As a sport giant Adidas should not only invest in the sports market but also it should try the other product related to the sport but in different industry like food (Nutrition and energy) products. Adidas is producing almost all kind of the product for the athletes, boxing, swimming, football, body building, golf etc, making all kind for products to give them comfort and confidence that they are wearing a reliable product. All of these sports consume high level of energy while their every day workout or during training session. As a highly reputed company if Adidas introduce such product then it will increase its market and an addition to it sport industry. New products will also be one of the most important factors in terms of success in the future (Blythe, J. 1998). After an extensive analysis of the environment and the market analysis adidas has develop and launched Adi food Supplement. Adi food supplement is mainly for the football athletes who consistently move during the game, this requires constant bodily re-adjustment, made possible by immediate starts, stops, jumps, dashes and spins. All of these physical needs can negatively impact the body and make the athlete vulnerable injury, illness or a disease. The athletes must have a well developed skills, complete with enhanced coordination, healthy and flexible joints. The flexibility required for complex and specific soccer manoeuvres, and the ability to create unpredictable power on-demand. Playing soccer well, and at the level required for success and victory. Adi food supplement will be reach in multi mineral vitamins. During the game athletes sweat heavily and lose mineral vitamins from the body. Regular dose of Adi food supplement will recover the lost minerals and the vitamin time to time and keep the athletes fit for the next game. This food supplement can be used in water, milk, juice etc to get the energy and for the taste it will be in different flavours to fulfil the need of the buyer. Market Objectives: Adidas marketing objectives are as follows: Increase its sales and market share Develop and launch a new product Improve its company and brand image Market development Environmental analysis: Every organisation need to analyze the enviourment to know its position in current market and compare the product with the competitors. The model we will use to analyze the market will be PEST. Igor Ansoff, 1965 states that environmental concept should be continuous and should feed all concepts of planning. Marketing environment is made up of three main parts: Internal environment Micro-environment Macro-environment According to the Food and Nutrition Policy 2007-2012 and UKAS, BS EN ISO 17025 law in Europe there are six main policies need to take care while producing a food products and follow the instruction to deploy the product in to any of the country which are under WHO European Action Plan. Biased healthy start Ensuring a secure, vigorous and sustainable food supply Detailed information and guidance to the consumer about the product Taking integrated action to tackle linked determinants such as physical motion, alcohol use, drinking water and the atmosphere Improving nutrition and food safety in health sector Monitoring, estimate and study If we examine the football market than we will come to know that Western Europe specially United kingdom is a very huge market and have a very good economic stability in the market. Now days each person is concern about its health especially all the athletes of any sports, and they spend hugely just on to their training and diet. Adidas as a privileged brand image in the market and any product related to sports will be highly appreciated. Nutrition and health related products have a significant market share. To launch the Adi Food Supplement Adidas required minimum of 130 million of initial investment to launch the product with significant and steady profit. In Europe technology factors are very favourable to ensure the product standards. Growth Objectives: Corporate managements first course of action should be a review of whether any opportunities exist for improving its existing businesses performance. Ansoff has proposed a useful framework for detecting new intensive growth opportunities called a product market expansion grid (Philip Kotler, 2003). Ansoff states that a company could expand using penetration strategy, market development strategy, product development strategy and diversification. In the current situation, Adidas intention is to develop a new product of potential interest to its current market. It should be noted that Adidas is a global company with market all over the world including Cameroon. The critical factor for success in going down this road is the profitability of the customer group for which the product is being developed. Secondly given the fact that Adidas have a strong brand name that can comfortably applied to its products. Product development: This strategy is used to develop new product for the existing market. Production of Adi Food Supplement in such a well developed market with a good competition will be of great advantage. Due to the competition the company gets chance to improve its product and make the best available for consumers. With the production of such kind of product Adidas will be able to fulfil the market gap and will be increasing its market share by getting an upper hand over the rivals. Kotler, P. (1994) states that once a company has successfully segmented the market, chosen its target customers, identified their chosen needs, and determined its market positioning than it is better able to develop new products. Segmentation of the Market, Targeting and positioning of the Product: Market segmentation is the process of splitting customers, or potential customers, within a market into different groups, or segment, within which customers have the same, or similar, requirement, (McDonald and Dunbbar, 1998). Adidas being a global company was able to segment the UK market on the following bases. Size the population is 60.6 million of which 80% local community, 10% Welsh and Northern Ireland and rest 10% is rest of world communities. Identity Adidas was able to identify that more than the 50% of the population between 18 to 30 yrs were more engaged in athletics, which the rest of the youth population was interested in other sports such as volleyball, handball, rugby and others. Another group of the total population 20% of between 34-40years were interested in amateur footing in the morning while another 10% of the population between 41-60years were also running for the sake of keeping fit. Relevance Adidas found in their market research that their product features were relevant for the segment they were researching as sportsmen and women wanted to run for long time without stopping to drink water. They need any kind of supplement fluid that will sustain in the body for a long time. Accessibility Adidas can use different adverting strategies to the target audience, such as TV advertising, sport panorama, bill boards and youth magazines or sponsor the football match to tell people about the product. Getting the segmentation of the market, companys next step is to target the particular segment of the potential customers of the new product. A particular segment is said to be attractive if there is enough potential customers to aim at, it is likely to be profitable and very much accessible. According to Geof, L. and Lester (2006) encompasses the identification of diverse needs for specific groups or segment of customers, deciding which of these groups the organisation should target or serve and designing marketing mix programs so that the needs of these targeted groups are then more closely met. In order to achieve the target market if we implement young and Rubican 4Cs model this can easily explain the segmentation of the market. This model can analyse user observation and help to determine their needs. After conducted common market research conducting interviews, focus groups, and questionnaires. They came to know that there are three main lifestyle groups which are based on cross-cultured buyer characterizations, which are constrained, the middle majority, and the innovators. It most likely found that the Middle Majority and the innovators are more concern about their health and spend some amount of the pay on their health products. Product Positioning Product positioning is always a very important part of any organization to market its product. Adi Food supplement will be rich in vitamins minerals and rich in nutrition for the athletes who do work out most of the day to keep them fit for the game. Footballers keep training and burn a lot of energy and due to sweat they lose vitamin and minerals. The biggest competitor of Adidas will be Maxi Muscles because has they market established but Adidas is the biggest name in the sports market and that brand image is their competitive advantage upon their competitor. Adi Food supplement will be a milk type product just add it in water or any other fluid and drink it with different flavours. It will consist of all necessary multi vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrate and amino Acids to recover energy and stamina quickly. Product positioning took place in the buyers mind and it is very much important to consider the buyers point of view regarding price before position the product in the market. Consumer thinks of every aspect of the product before buying like, taste, price, quality, satisfaction etc and then he or she will buy the product. Adidas as a sport tycoon can ensure the quality and taste and the price of the product but satisfaction still remains with the buyer. TV media and promotion of the product plays a vital role in positioning brand in the minds of the target consumers (Trout et al, 1981). According to the Aaker et. al (1992) we can achieve product position by seven different ways. Product characteristics and customer benefits To keep consumer attention for the product it very much necessary that product should have a very powerful slogan which expresses the product and the consumer demand. Adidas should develop a slogan like Healthy Life with Adi Food Supplement and step into a different shade of the market. Competitive Price To contend with the market for this product Adidas should keep the market price competitive with the other products in the market. Product Launch Launch of the product is very important part in the positioning strategy. If we look at the current market in London Olympics are going to be held in 2012. In Olympics, athletes will be coming all around the world and that product can be a big hit as a brand name of Adidas. Consumer Consumer plays an important role in product positioning if product is associated with the consumer. It will be an extra edge if Adidas advertise its product with a well-known personality in the market. Product classification Properly classify the product makes it easies for the consumer to understand and compare it with the different product and can notice the benefit of the product. Logo / Symbol Every product in the market has its special symbols. Adidas being a well known tycoon already have its three strips Logo and can also be set for the new product with minor adjustments. Competition A healthy competition is always beneficial for a new product because competitors like Maximuscles already created a space and position in the market. Adidas can use the same market reference point to launch its product and can easily penetrate in the market. Marketing Mix of the Adi Food Supplement Neil H. Borden, (1964) states that the marketing mix is the set of marketing tools the firm uses to pursue its marketing objectives in the target market. Kotler (1994) says the set of controllable variables and their levels that the firm uses to influence the target market. Marketing mix is based on 4Ps which is the classification of the product Product In marketing mix presentation of a product is a very important that how Adidas present its product for the consumer. It includes product competitive price, an attractive packing, and different flavours for the consumer. As a brand adidas it is very much important for the company to present its new product according to their image so consumer feels privilege when they buy Adi Food Supplement. Price To penetrate in the market with a new product it is very important for adidas price the product with a very competitive price which should be affordable for all kinds of buyers in the market. Price should be determined after review the competitors price so the affordability should not be a problem for the product. Promotion Promotion of the product plays a very important part in product marketing strategy. Promoting the Adi Food Supplement can be done via different ways like online marketing, TV ads, Sports Magazines, sponsoring the events, leaflets and more. As much Adidas send the information about the product to the customers will be better for the long run benefits. Place Last but not least part of marketing mix is the place of the product where adidas will launch it, as we discuss before in marketing segmentation about the initial location of distribution is UK. Place involves all distribution channel, location of distribution and the method of the distribution and it is important to fulfil the availability of the product indifferent locations in UK for that Adidas can consult to their organised dealers and retailers for the product selling. Investment cost on Adi Supplement and its Return Before launching the product companies always go through from the cost analysis and the product price, it always a crucial role to determine the right price according to the market and the economic view of the company (Shipley, 1981). Initially company will invest roughly around 130 million pounds to make the product successfully moving in the market. As the product will be something that will be focused on a specific target group the price of the product will be reasonable and affordable, with each box containing 750g Powder based supplement and costing around 25. Cost pricing Year 1 The expected cost for the product is 25 per box and the contribution sales for next five years is as follows Adidas should get return of its investment as follows This product will cover its cost with in 3 years and 7 months. And margin of the product can be increase if the product will be launched before the Olympics games in 2012 in London. References Aaker, D. A., R. Batra and J.G. This difficulty is another instance of Hatas desperate wish to gain control of his own life by policing the bodies of women. Sunny is not only pregnant, but near full-term and Hata finds himself taken back by the broad, curving shape of her. Although anyone else would have thought that she was too long with the child, that it was much too late, that there was nothing left to do(p.339), Hata not only arranges an illegal abortion for Sunny but also assists the physician, whose nurse would likely not agree to assist such a procedure(p.343). What Hata wishes to prevent in this instance is to breed miscegenation and keep his reputation. Thus, the idea of cosmopolitanism is that everyone is a ââ¬Å"citizen of the worldâ⬠(Appiah 14), which means, no matter the cultural differences everyone is to live within the same standards and guidelines of coexistence. When evaluating the plausibility of a cosmopolitan society, one should think of the coexistence of different cultures and ways of living. In considering this idea, there is a mass amount of culture clashes, or culture wars, throughout history; however, there are is an extreme amount in historical societies. Furthermore, the issues are found in both different cultures and in different moral codes, or moral judgment. With that said, the ideology of moral judgments throughout history, in order to predict the present and future, shroud the idea of a cosmopolitan world. The example of the creation of the monster in Fr ankenstein (1818) and plays a major role in proving this idea with philosophies from Luther the Reformer (1986), Cosmopolitanism (2006), and Itââ¬â¢s Complicated (2014). In Appiahââ¬â¢s initial thoughts, language is the gateway to any society and community. When there are different languages, the people begin to wonder what exactly is being said. Back then plays catered to the audience and to please the king. However, nowadays, plays are produced for money and audiences. In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s time, a lot of plays were written to center around politics and retelling of historical England and Europe. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays are written in prose. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays were also performed at playhouses around England. Todayââ¬â¢s theatre shares many similarities with the production from Shakespeareââ¬â¢s time, however they markedly differ. There are indeed many differences, for example, language, gender roles, and venue. These differences would change the retelling of Much Ado About Nothing in Shakespeare times because of its modern production. First, language absolutely would have played a vital role in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s time. Today Shakespeareââ¬â¢s words have massively changed and lost its meaning in modern retelling theatre. The pronunciation, familiar and formal, and verb endings have lost its meaning. In the play, some characters like Claudio, Dan Pedro, and Beatrice indeed simply slip on ââ¬Å"youâ⬠and ââ¬Å"thouâ⬠. For example, in the modern retelling film, Claudio slips on thou, and Benedick on the other reflects on ââ¬Å"youâ⬠. Claudio as well uses the formal you when Don Pedro joins him and Benedick. The formal ââ¬Å"youâ⬠and ââ¬Å"thouâ⬠was frequently used throughout the film. In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s time, ââ¬Å"theeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"thouâ⬠, ââ¬Å"thyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"thineâ⬠would have been used to form jokes. The program would last approximately four months followed by questionnaire style interviews and rating forms as well as functional assessments of the patients. Because both functional disability and physical and emotional strain from caregivers predict higher nursing home admissions, the researchers suggest that the COPE program would defer or at least delay nursing home placement of dementia patients given added support and training for caregivers in the home environment. There are problems that arose in cities of every generation and these problems have sparked the minds of the greatest thinkers, planner, architects, and theorists of the 19th century. We will write a custom essay sample on Urban Utopia or any similar topic only for you Order Now These were the first attempts at correcting the problems that we deal with today. Problems such as dealing with growth, dealing with nature, and dealing with civilization. Throughout the history of the city, it seems as though some of these basic principles have been forgotten. However, we can look towards the work of Ebenezer Howard, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Le Corbusier, who were some of the most dominant architectural thinkers who advanced the field of urban-conceptual thought into places it had never been before. The radical thinker, known as Sir Ebenezer Howard, is widely regarded by many to be one of the most influential urban planners of the 19th century. His work with the English Garden City Movement led to a worldwide response about how cities will deal with a rapid increase of people. His goal was to provide comfortable cities, which had an abundance of affordable housing; arranged in ways that would incorporate nature to its fullest. His work, unlike that of Robert Moses (another influential urban planner), Frank Lloyd Wright, or Le Corbusier, focused on the people and their ability to live in cities, without sacrificing their valuable green space. Howard was born on Fore Street, in the city of London on January 29th, 1850. He was the son of a shopkeeper and was sent away to school at a young age. He was schooled in Suffolk, then Cheshunt in Hertforshire, and finally completed his education at the age of 15 at Stoke Hall, Ipswich (Letchworth, para. 2). Working odd jobs out of school, he was eventually persuaded to go to the US at the age of 21. Around the time he came to America, he witnessed the American re-growth and recovery from the Great Fire of 1871â⬠¦a fire which destroyed most of the central business district (Letchworth para. 5). His views with how America planned to rebuild in this small city of Chicago led him to constantly be fascinated with this aspect of growth in the city. Ebenezer Howard had specific ideas of how future cities could deal with growth, and a rapid influx of people. He came up with The Garden City under the belief that it will be revolutionary in itself, like the early locomotive, capable of great improvement (Venturi 27). His Garden City grew out of the belief that centralization was the answer; a society where poverty and unemployment are unknown â⬠¦ where) everyone receives an equal salary (Venturi 33). These ideas came to fruition when Howard read the bestseller Looking Backward, by Edward Bellamy, about a man who slept from 1887 to 1900 ââ¬â only to wake up and find himself in a new society where industry regrouped into a cooperative trust â⬠¦ (and) competition is replaced by centralized planning. Later, Howard published his Garden Cities of Tomorrow, where he outlined hi s idea of the ideal utopian society. This Garden City was to be an ideal urban society of Three Magnets. It was created as a means of superseding capitalism and creating a civilization based on cooperation (Venturi 24). It represented a synthesis of town (city) and country, (two of the Magnets) where the town offered excitement, high wages, and employment, but also high prices and poor living conditions; the country â⬠¦ offers physical space, but is also backward and ââ¬Å"no funâ⬠. It was a middle ground between two extremes and had the qualities of being compact, efficient, healthful, and beautiful all at the same time. The city wasnââ¬â¢t without its flaws though. The third Magnet seemed the hardest to come by. It was the pinnacle of all of his work; that Garden City, whose promise of a better life would be the basis and reason why people would be drawn away from the urban centers and into a new civilization (Venturi 39). Also, Howard doubted the practicality of extreme centralization (Venturi 35); and even if it did work, he denied its desirability (Venturi 35). Howard questioned the inevitability of centralization, but continued to work out his own justification of what he learned from reading Looking Backward. The rest of his life was allocated to his stenography work, which offered him free time from which he could go about patiently designing that Third Magnet (Venturi 39) ââ¬â despite having no formal architectural training. Frank Lloyd Wright was similar to Howard, in the sense that they both despised and wanted to change the urban fabric of the city. Wright argued that the dense utopian atmosphere of the modern city offered no room for individuality. Therefore, he developed Broadacres, which took decentralization beyond the small community to the individual family home (Venturi 9). This individualism came to its height when Wright introduced his theory about Broadacres. He stated that ââ¬Å"individuality must be founded on individual ownershipâ⬠(Venturi 9). This materialized into his plan to make the city disappear, and replace it with thousands of parcels of land (similar to the Homestead Act of 1862). A minimum of an acre a person allowed for most people to work part-time in the small factories, offices, or shops that are nestled among the farms (Venturi 9). Since this was around the time that the car was being mass-produced, Wright introduced the idea of superhighways, which connected the scattered parcels of land in ways that werenââ¬â¢t possible before, similar to the vision of Robert Moses. Decentralization would make it possible for everyone to live his chosen lifestyle on his own land (9), essentially giving the people their own identity and allowing them to reconcile man with nature (Venturi 164). Now for the polar opposite. Le Corbusier, or Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, ââ¬Å"the Parisian leader of the revolution in modern architectureâ⬠(Venturi 9), was a Frenchman who had entirely different ideas of what the future for the city held. He placed a corresponding faith in organization (Venturi 9), and argued that cities just werenââ¬â¢t dense enough. His idea of the Radiant City could be seen as the modern thought of the city today. He proposed that geometrically arrayed skyscrapers of glass and steel would rise out of parks, gardens, and superhighways (Venturi 10). The elite lived in luxurious high-rise apartments, while their subordinates lived in the outskirts (suburbia). It all sounds oddly familiar to the city that we are familiar with today. Whilst the idea of the city not being dense enough can be argued by most people, the concept of organization makes this one of the most ideal structures to imposing cities of the future. All three of these planners came to their own conclusions by studying previous cities and how they came to development. The ancient Greeks had their own ideas of the city through the polis (Lecture 3). The polis was compromised of the acropolis, the enclosing city wall, the agora, residential districts, leisure and cultural areas, religious precinct, a harbor, a port, and an industrial district (Lecture 3). All of these became important parts of the cities that followed, but possibly the most important piece would be the public programs of the city. Greek rulers noticed that to keep the people under control, they had to devise ways to entertain them. This entertainment was given either in the form of shows, plays, battles, concerts, or in general outdoor gathering space (Stadium). This is why green space is the number one concern when it comes to city planning. There must be points where we can allow a break in the urban fabric of our cities and place public zones where people can entertain themselves and others. Industrialization that took place in the 19th century created various problems for the modern day utopia. An increase in population, increase in goods and services, redistribution of population, development of media, greater mobility, and the rise of ideology (lecture 6) spurred the thought of developing a change in shopping, domestic life, entertainment, leisure, circulation, and street life. It was a turning point since new technology was being introduced, and new techniques concerning how to manufacture materials and distribute them. Today, there are criticisms regarding the path that future cities are headed towards. Since the 1960ââ¬â¢s, there has been skepticism towards the utopian aspirations of the early 20th century. Some say that the utopian cities are growing larger, denser, and becoming more disconnected than ever before. Superstudio poses a solution to this. By instituting a global monument, called The Continuous Monument, Superstudio sought out to create architecture all equally emerging from a single continuous environment (Lang 122). The disconnect associated with modern architecture today is a direct result of the Industrial Revolution and the benefits we gained from it. It made lose our direct correlation between man and nature. Superstudio tries to address that issue in the Continuous Monument by going back to the basics of city design, the square block. It is a testimonial that architecture is the centre of the relationships of technology, sacredness, utilitarianism (Lang 122). The Continuous Monument allows us to have a better understanding of the earth around us, which we seem to have lost. Rem Koolhaas offered up another approach with his studies into the city of Lagos. Lagos is the fastest growing city in Nigeria. Itââ¬â¢s estimated that they gain roughly 21 inhabitants per hour and the population is expected to explode to 24 million people by the year 2020. In Lagos, theyââ¬â¢ve decided to ditch the urban fabric of the west and go along with an entirely new idea of utopian design. For example, Koolhaas has seen how Americans grumble about traffic and instinctively put the radio up and tune out the congestion ââ¬â however, in Lagos, when the traffic comes to a halt, thatââ¬â¢s when the trading marketplace begins. This is the new direction of the city according to Koolhaas. A city that reinvigorates the things that are wrong with it, while simultaneously turning them into overwhelming positives. Itââ¬â¢s an entirely customizable city, run and built by the inhabitants. If there is ever a need for more space in a house, the citizens simply build more rooms on top of their houses. This touches all the aspects of Frank Lloyd Wright and Ebenezer Howard ââ¬â with their emphasis on decentralized systems and influence on the individualism associated with architecture of the future. In the words of Koolhaas, ââ¬Å"Lagos is not catching up with us. Rather, we may be catching up with Lagos. â⬠The urban utopia is an idea that is constantly in a state of change. As needs grow and develop, there are things that need to be reformed, re-thought, and redesigned. The ideals of Ebenezer Howard, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Le Corbusier were once pristine candidates with functions of cities; however, with new work by Rem Koolhaas and Superstudio, we can begin to see a change in modern utopian design, and how these modern designs deal with growth that cities will be having in the next century. Who knows, maybe weââ¬â¢ll even begin to see something similar to the city of Lagos, applied in a westernized urban fabric such as New York City, or Chicago ââ¬â cities in desperate need of a change Bibliography Venturi, Robert, Denise Scott Brown, Steve Izenour. The story focuses on Myop, a ten year old African American girl who loves to explore the land in which she lives. Carefree and naive, Myop decides to travel further away from her ââ¬ËSharecropper cabinââ¬â¢ and travels deep inside the woods to unfamiliar land where she discovers the decomposed body of an African American man. It is then Myop quickly grows up and suddenly becomes aware of the world in which she lives. The story relies on setting and symbolism to convey the theme of departing innocence. Firstly the author wants to create an astonishing and radient world in which Myop lives in with beautiful sceery and picturesque skies. To do this her descriptions of the setting is strong and detailed, for example, ââ¬Å"skipped lightly from hen house to pigpen to smokehouseâ⬠. This highlights that Myop lives on a fairly big bit of land perhaps a farm which is filled with different kinds of animals, also the quote ââ¬Å"the days had never been as beautiful as theseâ⬠portrays that this is one of the best days of the year so far and it leaves the reader thinking, could anything go wrong to change that? Walker also tells the reader what time of year it is by describing what Myop does everyday, ââ¬Å"The harvesting of the corn and cotton, peanuts and squash, made everyday a golden surpriseâ⬠. The word ââ¬Å"harvestingâ⬠shows that it is around the end of summer beginning of autumn and the phrase ââ¬Å"golden surpriseâ⬠reminds us that Myop is still a young girl and gets excited very easily, the world is a magical place for her. In paragraph two, Alice Walker reminds us again how young, naive and carefree Myop is, ââ¬Å"She struck out at random chickens she liked, and worked out the beat of a song on the fenceâ⬠and the quote ââ¬Å"she was ten, and nothing existed for her but her songâ⬠. This conveys that Myop does not have a care in the world, the only thing on her mind right now is ââ¬Å"her songâ⬠and it is as if Myop is in her own little dream world. The author then goes back to describing the scenery, ââ¬Å"She felt light and good in the warm sunâ⬠. This tells the reader that it is still early in the morning as the sun is still bright and high in the sky. Walker still continues to illustrate the setting throughout paragraph three where she says ââ¬Å"silver ferns and wildflowers grewâ⬠. Again this tells the reader that Myopââ¬â¢s surroundings are beautiful, tranquil and peaceful. Alice then goes on to tell us that Myop lives in a ââ¬Å"sharecropper cabinâ⬠which gives across a strong sense of safety as it is familiar and family orientated. Added to this, the writerââ¬â¢s use of symbolism strengthens this idea of attractiveness and inexperience, Myopââ¬â¢s name being the main symbol. Myop is short for Myopia. The name given to short-sightedness. This is used as a metaphor as Myopââ¬â¢s naivety, then as the story goes on Myop opens her eyes to see what the real world is like and the author mentions her name less. Another symbol used in paragraph 2 is the ââ¬Å"warm sunâ⬠. This symbolises the light and life of the world. It is a time when people are supposed to be awake and no body should be sleeping but this is later contrasted further on in the story. All the setting and scenery described gives an image of the Garden of Eden- paradise ââ¬â a place everyone wants to be, where nothing bad can happen up until one critical moment when Eve eats the apple and everything forever changes. This gives the reader an insight in to the rest of the story but still leaves them wondering what could happen next. However the atmosphere begins to change halfway through the story. The setting becomes like the Garden of Eden, after the fall- ââ¬Å"an armful of strange blue flowersâ⬠. This shows that the atmosphere is starting to change the further away from home she is. It is unfamiliar territory and being far from home means that nobody is around to guide her on her way, ââ¬Å"Today she made her own path, bouncing this way and that wayâ⬠. This portrays that Myop does not know where she is going, she is starting to make her own way in life and does not need an adult to guide her. It also shows that Myop is again, moving further away from home and the safety of her usual environment and it is leading to a darker and abnormal place in which Myops world, does not exist. Again, Alice Waler describes the setting to build up to a climactic event,â⬠By twelve oââ¬â¢clockâ⬠. This mirrors Myopââ¬â¢s progress- at midday the sun is at its warmest yet Myop is walking towards a dark place where no light is shining through. Walker continues to build he climactic event when she says ââ¬Å"she was a mile or more from homeâ⬠. This leaves the reader asking themselves ââ¬ËIs this too far for a ten year old? ââ¬â¢ Also the quote ââ¬Å"The air was dampâ⬠illustrates that the surroundings were unpleasant and frightening and to emphisise this, the quote ââ¬Å"the silence was close and deepâ⬠creates tention and gives a sense that it is a well hidden environment that is extremely quiet and deserted. Again symbolism is linked with setting in conveying the idea that innocence and beauty are threatened, ââ¬Å"vaguely keeping an eye out for snakesâ⬠. This reminds us of the Garden of Eden when the devil disguised himself as a snake. The snake is a representative of evil and it tells you something bad is about to happen and creates a sense of fear and curiousity. Towards the end of the story there is a dramatic twist where Myopââ¬â¢s angelic ways are exposed and are at risk of existing no more, ââ¬Å"she stepped smack into his eyesâ⬠. Myop at this point does not know what she has found and reacts naturally as she ââ¬Å"reached down quickly, unafraid, to free herselfâ⬠. Myopââ¬â¢s innocence is ââ¬âto a degree- still under threat at this point, ââ¬Å"It was only when she saw his naked grin that she gave a little yelpâ⬠. The words ââ¬Å"naked grinâ⬠hint at something more sinister and serious. Myop has just found out that her world is not as she had thought it was for all these years and she is more curious than before. In paragraph 7 Alice Walker describes the corpse in detail and Myopââ¬â¢s innocence disappears altogether, ââ¬Å"His head lay beside himâ⬠tells the reader that the manââ¬â¢s head is decapitated. Added to this the quote ââ¬Å"all of them cracked or brokenâ⬠conveys that this man had taken a real beating before his death and that may have been the cause of his death. As the story goes into paragraph 8, Myop then discovers the real cause of death and is aware of how evil the world can be, ââ¬Å"rotted remains of a nooseâ⬠. This portrays that the man had been hung and gradually Myop understands what has happened and realises the truth about racism. The final part of the story is full of symbolism being a sign of evil and death, she pushed back the leaves and layers of earth and debrisâ⬠. Myop is brushing away her own innocence, all the layers of lies to expose the truth and finds the body, which is a symbol of injustice and evil. However amongst the symbols of darkness there is a hint of beauty. For example ââ¬Å"wild pink roseâ⬠. A rose is a symbol of beauty and love, its attractive therefore itââ¬â¢s prettiness interreges Myop and she goes to investigate. As Myop gets closer to the rose she finds that ââ¬Å"rotted remains of a nooseâ⬠is wrapped around the rose. This is symbolic for killing beauty. It tells us that no matter what race you are, you are beautiful but sadly not everyone thinks so, which is what the thorns on the rose represent. Another symbolic item is the flowers that Myop has been collection on her journey, ââ¬Å"Myop laid down her flowersâ⬠. This is a symbol of remorse, a sign of respect for the man as this is where Myopââ¬â¢s inheritance has come from and as she puts down the flowers and as paragraph nine says, ââ¬Å"And the summer was overâ⬠Myop walks away she is leaving her innocence behind. To conclude, setting and symbolism are enormously important techniques in ââ¬Å"The Flowersâ⬠and Alice Walker has portrayed these extremely well all throughout the story. The character Myop gives insight into another life that nobody would normally experience so it is a good read and I enjoyed analysing it. ââ¬Å"The Flowersâ⬠By Alice Walker Megan McPhail x Chana Thibodeauxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985084023549676495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721647199429662914.post-37964394617254710712020-05-03T00:24:00.001-07:002020-05-03T00:24:03.057-07:00Ea Games Swot free essay sample EA Games Company Mission Statement: We are an association of electronic artists who share a common goal. The poem begins with a disjointed sentence, which immediately attracts the readers eye. We will write a custom essay on The Poems Mending Wall And Home Burial Are About Division, Both On specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now ?Something there is that doesnt love a wall,The use of the word ?Something arouses the readers curious nature to read on to find out what this ?Something is. The tone of this is casual and unimposing. The author proceeds in a conversational tone speaking of the reasons to explain the breaking down of the wall. The reasons given are all quite practical but yet through these reasons we get a glimpse of the message, which the author desperately wants us to find. ?And make gaps even two can pass abreast.Even though the poem is about division and separation we have a theme of unity in this line creeping through. The speaker expresses an awe of nature and a deep-rooted respect this is displayed in the way he talks about the breaking of the wall by nature. ?That sends the frozen-ground-swell under itAnd spills the upper boulders in the sun,The use of the alliteration of the ss is very calming and the sounds create a flowing movement. ?And on a day we meet to walk the lineAnd set the wall between us once again. The author uses the words ?meet and ?between us in close proximity to each other to give the impression that although the two men work together for the same reason they are actually working alone. The wall is a barrier that both separates them and yet unifies them in the fixing of it. ?We have to use a spell to make them balance; The use of the word spell hints at magically overtones by the author lets the reader know that all things are possible. The words ?game and ?one on a side further emphasize the theme of division. There is never any direct speech between the two men but yet through the speaker we learn about what the other man thinks about the wall. ?Good fences make good neighbours. The speaker does not think the wall is necessary? There where it is we do not need the wall. The suggestion is always implied by the speaker but yet never spoken out loud. The author has a playful nature and through the poem it is displayed,?Spring is the mischief in me,.The author uses the word ?offense as an appropriate play on words a symbol of the poems spirit of play and freedom. The author repeats the opening line as if to reawaken the thoughts he had left behind. The speaker in the poem makes a lighthearted attempt at a suggestion for the walls breaking,?.I could say ?Elves to him, even though this is humorous thought the neighbour would never think of it. It is only through the speakers imagination that he thought of elves; the other mans thoughts are confined to reality. The speaker sees the man in a different light. He is a serious man with little time for ?flights of fantasy the speaker describes him as an ?old-stone savage armed. The speaker is not referring to his physically appearance but to his mind and its workings. The other man in the poem is concerned with rituals any diversion from his normal thinking is a bad thing. The creative and imaginative side of his brain lies dormant. ?He will not go behind his fathers saying. And he likes having thought of it so wellThe other man in the poem is trapped by work and possibly his own past as it comes to him in the words his father said. He is tied down by these words not just physically by the mending of the wall but also mentally when he takes everything on a rational level no form of escapism is applied in his life. The poem highlights two types of people in todays world. The first is represented by the speaker a man who lives by no mental boundaries. The second is represented by the second man in the poem who is totally oblivious to the gift of imagination. The wall is more a mental thing that shields him from the uncivilized world beyond it but also stops any side of himself being revealed. .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f , .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .postImageUrl , .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f , .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:hover , .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:visited , .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:active { border:0!important; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:active , .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u192c472112e900e359da2297332e3e6f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Acid Rain (1878 words) EssayThe poem ?Home Burial has a more sombre tone to it. The tone of the poem is very tense. The poem begins with the man looking at his wife yet she appears to be staring somewhere else. This is one of the main images of the poem where he is looking at her and she is looking over her shoulder at the past. She is apprehensive about moving from this stance as shown by her hesitant steps on the stairs. ?Looking back over her shoulder at some fear. She took a doubtful step and then undid itThe stairs are a symbol of time, her husband is at the bottom and represents the future, yet she is ever more reluctant to go to him and prefers to remain in the past where she feels most comfortable. The woman is the weaker minded of the two and shows this throughout the course of the poem. Her husband finds it hard to relate to her without soundings harsh. ?..-for I want to know. The man takes a stronger stance and is physically bigger than her. He towers over her as she sinks down into the stairs. He takes a dominant position thus emphasizing the fact that she is the weaker. ?Mounting until she cowered under him.He loves her yet she is so very defensive towards him. They way in which she speaks to him is foreboding and she is resilient to him. ?With the least stiffening of her neck and silence. She let him look, sure that he wouldnt see,Blind creature; The use of the words ? blind creature are very effective because it shows she thinks of him as less than a human because he can not see what she sees. The woman finds it easier to express her pain through hot tears rather than through words. She lashes out at her husband with anger but yet has no reason to hate him. ?But I understand: it is not the stones,But the childs mound-The use of the word ?understand indicates that he does know what is going on but feels it hard to talk about his pain. She feels disgusted by him because he can not express his feelings on the subject but yet when he does she reels in pain and backs off. ?She withdrew, shrinking from beneath his arm. When he pleads with her to listen to him talk about his feelings she snaps at him abruptly. ?Not you!-The use of the exclamation shows her anger. Her replies to him are monosyllabic which further enhance the feelings of division between them. When confronted with the vulnerable side of her husband she runs away. ?I must get out of here..Its clear from her husbands response that she runs away from him when she needs him the most. The balance in her life has shifted and she feels consumed with anger and feels herself drowning in emotions. She puts up a mental barrier as a knee-jerk reaction to the death of her child. The barrier is the division between them. He tries to explain what he feels in the only way he knows how. ?My words are nearly always an offence. He has tried everything humanly possible to be there for her yet she repels any effort made on his behalf. She does not know how to cope. ?A man must partly give up being a manWith womenfolk..He is referring to the social attitude to women and their emotions. In todays society women are pigeon holed seen as the emotional sex and need men to hold their lives together with support. ?Tell me about it if its something human,Let me into your grief. Im not so muchUnlike other folks as your standing thereThe man is totally at a loss as what to do. He wants to help her cope with the tragedy but she is still unapproachable. .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 , .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .postImageUrl , .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 , .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:hover , .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:visited , .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:active { border:0!important; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:active , .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723 .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6eafe9c13b486636a490f5d188d78723:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Birth Order Essay Disagreeing? What was it brought you up to think it the thingTo take your mother-loss of a first childSo inconsolably in the face of love. Her childhood was such that she has imprinted in her mind that only the women mourn the loss of children so she feels resentful that he wants to mourn the loss of their child as well. She has pushed her husband so far away that he feels totally isolated from the situation. He feels annoyed with her that she is so consumed with emotions and yet pushes him away. ?If you had any feelings,She sums up what she thinks by saying he is emotionally numb. The hatred for her husband has erupted because she saw him dig the childs grave. ? I saw you from that very window there,Making the gravel leap and leap in air,The use of the word ?leap is very significant because it is usually a word that conveys joy. Her hostility stems from the fact that when he dug the grave he seemed happy not racked with pain like her. ?You could sit there with the stains on you shoesOf fresh earth from your own babys grave. She feels so disgusted by him and has seeming complacency about the childs death. She uses his very words to try and prove that she is right, that he is emotionally deadened. The words he spoke to take his mind off the death are thrown back in his face as ammunition for her fiery hatred. ?You couldnt care! The exclamation mark here is even more prevalent than the previous one to convey utter loathing. ?One is alone, and he dies more alone. This is the stance she takes on life and on eventually death. ?But the worlds evil. I wont have grief soIf I can change it. Oh, I wont, I wont! The repetition of ?I wont proves the determination she puts behind it she hates the world, herself and her husband for their childs death. ?There, you have said it all and you feel better. You wont go now. Finally she has truly expressed her feelings on everything. They are mixed and confused and bitter but at least she said exactly what was on her mind. She has to run from everything and just as she was beginning to open up to her husband. There are great communication problems in their relationship. She feels compelled to run away when there trouble. ?. First tell me that. Ill follow and bring you back by force. I will! -He feels that they have just reached a turning point and yet she still runs away. The husband represents the typical male in society that has been shaped as the rock in any relationship. The wife is the typical female who is ruled by emotion. The wife in this situation has no where to run to in your mind. She is backed up into a corner and can not cope with all these emotions. She probably feels guilty over her childs death and so turns this guilt into hatred and lashes out at her husband who is only trying to be supportive but yet everything he does is wrong in her eyes. She hurts him to let him know how she feels, she attacks the person she needs the most and who loves her the most. As with ?Mending Wall the themes of division are apparent. In ?Home Burial the wife like the other man is confined to a prison within her mind. She wants to break free from the claustrophobic atmosphere within herself. The emotion for her is so overpowering that she can no longer separate the good from the bad; there is no difference for her. The mind is the only thing we have yet to destroy in our world. For some it can be a haven of imagination and excitement like the speaker in ?Mending Wall a sort of practical tool as a from of escapism. For others it can become a personal hell like that of confinement Chana Thibodeauxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985084023549676495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721647199429662914.post-3646844091938363052020-03-06T10:00:00.001-08:002020-03-06T10:00:01.957-08:00Sharks essaysSharks essays Sharks are any of the 340 species of fish that, together with the skates, rays, and chimeras, are sharply distinguished from the vast number of bony fish species by their cartilaginous skeletons. Sharks are very keen-sensed fishes, many species of which are able to hunt and eat nearly all the larger water animals in both shallow and deep seas. These two features account for their long evolutionary history. Many of the shark species living today are quite similar to abundant species that swam in seas of the Cretaceous period more than 100 million years ago. Sharks reveal great diversity in behavior and size. The whale shark is the largest shark and also the largest fish in the sea, measuring up to 15-m (49f) in length. The cookie-cutter shark measures less than 50 cm (19in) in length. Sharks are mainly marine fish found in all seas and are especially abundant in tropical and subtropical waters. Many types migrate up rivers. Sharks are best known as aggressive carnivores that even at tack members of their own species. Two of the largest sharks-the basking shark and the whale shark-feed on plankton, which they strain from the water with gill rakers. Altogether sharks are very different from other animals because they all have unique physical characteristics, mating habits, and feeding habits. Most sharks are gray in color and have leathery skin covered with small, sharp, pointed scales, which, unlike those of bony fish, do not enlarge during the animals growth. Usually five gills slits lie behind the head. The tail is asymmetrical, with the backbone extended into the upper lobe. Many species have rows of sharp teeth embedded in fibrous membranes instead of in the jawbones. When the sharks teeth are lost in their prey, other teeth quickly shift into position to replace the teeth that they lost. The fins and tails of sharks are rigid and not erectile, like those of the bony fish. Contrary to popular image, the dorsal fins rarely stick ... These periods have been compiled to generate significant contributions towards the economy. The most noticeable moments have been those that involve change and progress within the society to include rebellion or moments developed through famous leaders. The competing powers have been included in the economy of famous nations in America and Germany. However, the leading Asia nations that have been highlighted as the competition within the economy have included significant improvement. The Great Leap and Meiji era presented periods that saw significant progress in Asiaââ¬â¢s leading nation progress. The government presented the measures to create development and allow for the gradual economic progress. The periods had been developed at stages that the society desired change and tactics to cope with the harsh environmental presentation. Through Mao and the Meiji emperor, the example had been issued on the impacts of famous leaders in influencing positive societal progress. These periods are defined better with the results they developed into the economic progress to establish a dominant nation in Japan and China. The Meiji era had, however, been more successful because it had accorded power to individual development rather than the system in China that grouped members into communes. Mao provided the initiative in 1958 to boost the economy of China. He had laid the provision to transform Chinaââ¬â¢s economy in a period that would last 30 years and match that of America. He had performed the analysis to provide the evidence needed to complete the task. This kind of conflict would ignite the entire Middle East in a war against the West, given the support that Israel enjoys from the United States and Europe. Therefore, the 2006 July War was not only a frightening experience for the parties directly involved, but the whole world. Although Israel received much criticism for its unmatched hostilities against Hezbollah and Lebanon, one could certainly argue that Israel was justified in taking those measures. On July 12, 2006, Hezbollah paramilitary forces engaged an Israeli patrol on the Israeli side of the border. This left three Israeli soldiers dead and two captured. Ehud Olmert, the Prime Minister of Israel, responded with systematic bombing s of southeastern Lebanon, which killed far more civilians than Hezbollah fighters. Hezbollah responded to these bombings with unsystematic, indiscriminate missile launches at towns and civilians in northern Israel. One side, the Israelis, endeavored to take away Hezbollahââ¬â¢s ability to fight. The other side, Hezbollah, vowed to keep going until Israel stopped its aggression. When the conflict stopped by UN ceasefire on August 14th, nearly 1,000 Lebanese were dead and nearly a million were displaced by the violence. The economies of both countries clearly suffered, especially with the destruction of vast infrastructures in Lebanon, which essentially put that country 20 years behind. Through this experience, however, one could certainly argue that Hezbollah was the winner, not Israel, despite the extensive damage done by the Israeli forces to Lebanon. Knowing that Israelââ¬â¢s objective during the July War was to destroy Hezbollahââ¬â¢s ability to engage in war and kill I sraeli civilians, Israel failed to more than temporarily diminish that ability. The Lebanese people grew to identify with Hezbollah through the experience, partly because they saw Hezbollah as their only protectors against the huge Israel. However, Hezbollah has been reportedly restocked with weapons from Syria and Iran, which means that this kind of conflict could restart at any time in the near future (Tristam, 2006). With Hezbollahââ¬â¢s increased support from other countries, it is a dangerous situation right now for Israel, who saw its reputation suffer deeply from the events of the July War. But even though Israelââ¬â¢s reputation suffered as a result of its actions in July 2006, one could very well argue, as many Zionists and supporters of Israel have done, that their actions were justified in the way of Hezbollahââ¬â¢s initial aggression (Bentov, 2007). Clearly, the killing of Israel soldiers by another military is an act of war. Unfortunately for Israel, Hezbollah is not a true ââ¬Å"militaryâ⬠in the sense that it has a standing army. Israel then targeted their enemy as closely as they could, but failed to achieve the kind of precision that would have earned them victory. Perhaps Israel would have benefited from using tactical forces on the ground, and not using its air force to bomb targets in crowded urban areas. Despite that, it seems Israel was entitled to some Chana Thibodeauxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03985084023549676495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6721647199429662914.post-63576558079940507272020-01-26T23:27:00.001-08:002020-01-26T23:27:05.934-08:00Corporate Financial Analysis Of Pfizer Finance EssayCorporate Financial Analysis Of Pfizer Finance Essay Pfizer, is the worlds largest research-based pharmaceutical company, founded in 1849. (Table 3) As we can see from the table 1, Pfizers financial situation in 2011 was not bad. 1.3.2 Income Statement Analysis In 2011, total revenue was 67.425 million, a 0.54% increase over 2010 and a 36.85% increase over 2009. Operating income in 2011 was 12.762 million and net income was 10.009 million, both of them increased. Gross profit was not very obvious but we can find a sharp increase from 2009 to 2010. (Graph 2) In 2011, ratio of gross profit and total revenue was 77.63%. Operating expenses of total revenue proportion in three years were around 60%. It shows Pfizers ability of controlling in operating expenses was better in 2010 and 2009. (Table 4) Graph 3 shows that changes in gross margin, operating margin, net profit margin, ROA and ROE. The companys operating conditions were very stable. (Graph 3) 1.3.3 Cash Flow Analysis Here is a table shows that three years cash flows of three kinds of activities. (Table 3) In 2009, cash flows from operating activities were 16.587 million and in 2010. If investing activities cant bring enough money to make up cash outflows, cash flows from investing activities would be negative. In 2011, Pfizers cash flows from investing activities were 2.2 million. Pfizers investments were effective and they created a positive cash flow and can create profit. (Table 4) Generally speaking, the larger the cash flows from financing activities the more pressure of debt the company will be faced with. We can see in 2010 and 2011, Pfizers was under huge pressure. All in all, Pfizer has a good financial situation. 1.4 Summary of Pfizers Challenges 2011 was generally a good year for Pfizer, Inc. Revenues increased 1%, Net income also had significant gains. However, the company still faces diverse challenges from many aspects, which can have a long term impact on Pfizers performance. U.S. Healthcare Legislation Enacted Since 2010 It brought two negative influences: 1. A $648 million reduction to Revenues, related to higher, extended and expanded rebate provisions and the Medicare coverage gap discount provision. 2. An extra $248 million expense in informational, sales and administrative, related to the fee payable charged by the federal government. Loss of Expiration of Intellectual Property Rights It can be an adverse factor and decline total revenues. When the patent protection has expired, Pfizer loses exclusivity on these products and generic pharmaceutical manufacturers can produce similar products and sell them for a lower price. Problems in Productivity and Regulatory Environment Pfizer devoted significant resources to research and development; these activities involve a high risk and may take many years to transfer research achievements into products. Besides, there is no assurance that the development of any particular product will achieve desired clinical success, be approved by regulators and commercially. If Pfizer failed, sunk costs lost, which can be a huge loss. 1.4.4 Pfizer is Under Pressures of Pricing and Access Governments, healthcare organizations and other payer groups implement price controls and require price cuts in order to pay less in purchasing Pfizers products. There were government regulated price reductions for certain products beginning in 2011. Whats more, health insurance and social welfare plans continue to limit access to some of Pfizers medicines by setting restrictions in the increased use of generics. 1.4.5 Challenges from Poor Macroeconomic Environment We believe that with high unemployment rate and increases in co-pays, patients tend to buy generics, delay treatments, skip doses or use less effective treatments to reduce costs. During 2011, portions of the revenues are exposed to fluctuations in foreign exchange rate. Pfizer need to seek appropriate management in foreign exchange rate risk as it operates in multiple foreign currencies 2. Stock Price Analysis 2.1 Track Pfizers Stock Price in the Last 3 Years 2.1.1 2009(Graph 4) We can find that the stock price continued going down from Jan. to Mar. However, it went up until the end of the year. Stock price in Mar is the lowest all the year and the stock price at the beginning of the year and the end of the year are almost the highest. The highest is nearly $19, and the lowest is less than $12. 2.1.2 2010(Graph 5) The chart show us that the stock price in 2010. Generally speaking, the stock price went down from Jan to Jul. We can see the stock price in Jul is the lowest number throughout the year, and it was 14.14 dollars per unit. After Jul, the stock price gradually rose. But between Aug and Sep, the stock price experienced a decline within a narrow range. This circumstance also happened between Nov and Dec. The highest price occurred in Jan, and it was 20.00 dollars per unit. 2.1.3 2011(Graph 6) It seems that the chart of 2011 was a little complex. From Jan to Jun the general momentum of the stock price was up though a few small declines. From Jun to Aug, the number experienced a decline by a large margin after Aug, the statistics generally rose up though some declines. The highest price was 21.83 dollar per unit in Dec, and the lowest price was in Aug, and the number was 16.66 dollar per unit. 2.2 Calculate Stock Price of the Company To calculate the stock price of the company, I will use the formula EPSÃÆ'-P/E=P. EPS=NI/ SO. I will calculate the stock price of the company in 2012. (Graph 7) 1. Highest and lowest PE Ratio in 2009 are 14.79 and 11.45, so the average ratio is 13.12. 2. The 2 ratios in 2010 are 23.52 and 13.58, so the average is 18.55. 3. The 2 ratios in 2011 are 19.34 and 12.28, so the average ratio is 15.81. (Graph 8) The EPS in 2009, 2010 and 2011 are 1.235, 1.205, 1.255. According to P=EPSÃÆ'-P/E, stock price in 2009, 2010, 2011 are 16.20à ¼Ã â22.35à ¼Ã â19.84. 2.3 Assessment of the Current Stock Price According to the Income statement, PFE has earnings per share of 1.27, the average P/E is $17.81, estimate a value of PFE using P/E as a valuation multiple. Thus, P=$1.27*17.80=$22.6060B It assumes that PFE will have similar future risk. Assuming NVS is comparable to PFE in term of its underlying business NVS has earnings per share of $3.55, the average P/E is $15.39, under the same assumption, P=$3.55*15.39=$54.6345B. Compare to the two major competitors, PFE share price is relatively low. According to Income Statement, PFE has EBITDA of $27.56B and has an enterprise value to EBITDA multiple of $6.71, shares outstanding of 7.54B and debt of $38.96B Enterprise value would be V=$27.56B*6.71=$184.9276, estimate PFEs share price: P=(184.9276-38.96)/7.54=$19.2361. As this estimation is based on enterprise value, it is more reliable than the first one. It is overvalued obviously when its stock price being $22.66 per share. Similarly, NVS has EBITDA of $17.05, enterprise value to EBITDA multiple of 8.81, shares outstanding of $2.42 and debt of $24.59. NVS share price would be: P=(17.05*8.81-24.59)/2.42=$51.9093 As Comparables only provide information regarding the value of a firm relative to other firms in the comparison set, using multiples will not help us determine if an entire industry is overvalued. According to the research, PFE share price is much less than NVS, I would suggest that PFE is relatively less deserving investment. According to the Balance Sheet, dividend paid is $6.234. , it is easy to get the dividend paid annually: Div=$6.234/7.54=$0.8268 The share price is $22.66, suppose investors hope the constant dividend growth model would based on a 4% growth rate, we would estimate a stock price of P=0.8268/(0.4811-0.04)=$1.8744 We can calculate the growth rate: g=r-Div/P=0.4811-o.8268/22.66=1.16%. Investors would feel disappointed if invest in PFE as the growth rate is relative lower than he/her expectations. 2.4 Value of Pfizers Stock Price Compared with Competitors From statistics online, we can know that the 52week range of Pfizer is 16.63-23.3, Roches is 115.1-169.2, and Eli Lilys is 33.75-42.03. Obviously, the stock price of Roche changes the most, the changed absolute amount of 54.1. A risk lover may prefer this kind of stock because it can change by a larger scale, and if we can seek this opportunity well, huge profits can be achieved. Compared with Roche, Pfizer stock has a large advantage. The change scope of Pfizer stock is not big, which indicates that it is relatively stable, and a risk-averse may prefer this kind stock. The perceived benefit of any gain is outweighed by the perceived cost of an equivalent loss. Most people are risk-averse, so Pfizer stock has an excellent competitive advantage and suitable to hold for a long time. Besides, to compare the value of the stock price, analyzing the P/E ratio is the most traditional method. Pfizer earned $1.24 per share last year and the stock is trading at 22.38, so the stock has a P/E ratio of approximately 18.05-to-1.Similarly, the P/E ratio of Roche is 15.04, the P/E ratio of Eli Lily and Company is 10.7. Generally, the lower the P/E ratio, the better value the stock represents. Thus, in this case Pfizer is less competitive than his competitor, Roche and Eli Lily and Company. 2.5 Beta of Pfizer and Comparison with Its Competitors The beta of Pfizer is 0.64, the beta of Roche is 0.66, and the beta of Eli Lily and Company is 0.37. Beta is a risk index, can be used to measure fluctuation of one stock price relative to the whole stock market. The bigger the absolute amount, the larger the change of profit .The stock of Pfizer and its competitors, Roche and Eli Lily and Company, all can be regarded as low risk stocks. 3. Summary 3.1 Major Developments of Pfizer during 1Q of 2012 During the 1st quarter of 2012, Pfizers revenues were $15.4 billion, a decline of 7% compared with $16.5 billion in the year-ago quarter and the unfavorable impact of foreign exchange of $57 million, or less than 1%. Established products unit revenues increased 17% in comparison with prior year period, obviously driven by recent launches of generic versions of some products. Revenues of Lipitor were $383 million, which made a great contribution to the company. In addition, revenues were positively influenced by the entry of multi-source generic competition in the U.S. Emerging markets unit revenues grew 9% due to continued demand growth in China, Russia and Mexico. In animal health unit, revenues increased 6%, primarily due to the purchase of King Pharmaceuticals. Nutrition unit revenues gained 8%, created by making benefits from the launch of successful new products, increased marketing activities and overall strength in emerging markets, especially China. Pfizers first-quarter 2012 financial performance is pleased; however, it still faces fierce competition from other companies. Pfizer need to focus its problems in exclusivity and financial management. 3.2 Summary of All We Have Learnt About Pfizer Pfizer is better than others. It could be name recognition, innovation, market share or any other attributes that makes a company stand out from the herd. From what has been discussed, we may draw the conclusion that there are three ideas to contribute the success of Pfizer. Innovation creates success and being innovative in your business is one of the keys to being successful. Innovation is the introduction of new processes, new ways of doing things and revolutionizing how things have been accomplished previously. The most surprising thing is Pfizer cannot research an influential drug independently in the past 10 years of 20 century. Although it invested huge amount of money in R D, it seems more like a marketing company. Throughout Pfizers development in recent years, its success can be summed up that use the advantage of large-scale and well-capitalized to strengthen the ability in value chain in marketing. Through buying mature technology, products and combination new companies, building alliance with competitors to consolidate its market share. Giving full play to the enthusiasm of its medical representatives, integrating the advantages of its marketing network, and enhancing core competitiveness, thus achieve a leading position in the industry. In conclusion, Pfizer is a rare example of successful combination of R D and marketing strategies in international pharmaceutical companies. 3.3 Should We Buy Pfizers Stock or Not Pfizer has a good ability in finance, improved control in operation. For big investors, I would recommend Pfizer, which requires low risk, stable growing dividends, and long term return. Despite Pfizer stock price is relative lower than its competitors, big investors can gain large amount of cash by purchasing large amount of shares. However, I will not recommend Pfizer to retail investors. It would not be wise to invest in a company which may take years to transfer research investments into product profits. Higher return indicates higher risk; it would be too risky for retail investors to take the gamble. Quick money never stays too long. The objects of microeconomics surround us all the time. Microeconomics studies the aspects of functioning of all companies, and we deal with various companies throughout our lives. I shop for food and clothes in stores, go to movie theaters to see popular movies, buy stationary at Home Depot, transfer funds through banks. All of these companies function according to certain laws, which are all studied in microeconomics. My favorite brand of car is Toyota, and microeconomics is able to determine what the most efficient volume of production for the company is. It is able to give the managers an answer to the question of what the most efficient combination of their resources should be, i.e., how many employees they should employ, how many materials they should get from suppliers and many other issues. We constantly have to go shopping, and deal with prices which are established according to supply and demand, cost of production and other factors. Whenever the price of tomatoes in the store goes to the roof, we usually see a note in the store that the crops in Florida turned out not as large as it was predicted or that the hurricanes destroyed all of the crops. Even though the same tomatoes cost half the price just a short time ago, we realize that the law of supply and demand has been efficiently applied here. The demand for tomatoes remained the same, but the supply decreased dramatically and thus prices were destined to increase. I also deal with the concept of elasticity all of the time. Companies never make discounts on products the demand for which is inelastic because the volume of sales is going to remain stable anyway. Therefore, there is usually hardly a chance for me to get such products for a lower price. However, I am always a good shopper when it comes to products with high elasticity because companies decrease their prices on such items from time to time to attract more customers. For example, there is always a chance to buy some clothes on sale. I deal with the concept of utility all of the time in my life as well. Some of the products have a high level of utility for me, and I am going to buy them at any price because I am simply unable to live without them. For example, DVDââ¬â¢s of my favorite movies are extremely valuable for me, and I am ready to pay any money to be able to see my favorite actor or actress. At the same time, some items have a very low utility for me, and only low price on such items is able to attract me. I am the type of person who always judges products by their utility for me and not by how fashionable they are. Like every person, I am forced to deal with various market forms, such as perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, or monopolistic competition. In most cases, I see the market of monopolistic competition because there are very many items with slightly different features. The market of the United States has very many companies which produce similar items but try to attract consumers by unique features and by efficient advertising. For example, there are very many producers of cars in the United States. There are also many multinational companies based in the United States which produce cars, for example, Japanese Toyota, Korean Honda and many others. They all produce cars which have quite similar features. All of these manufacturers come up with various models of cars so that they can attract people who like sports cars, who have children, who need to travel in the mountains, or who need fuel-efficient cars. Every manufacturer tries to come up with some unique feature which competitors do not have. To some extent, it is very good for me as a consumer because competitors are fighting for customers and thus they constantly introduce new great deals for us. I am able to fight the model of the car which I want and perhaps even get it at a lower price. I also often deal with oligopolistic competitors. The market of providers of wireless phones is not as large as the car market. There are some major players in it, and I have to choose among the most powerful of them. It was very challenging for me to decide whether to use the services of T-Mobile or Verizon, but I finally made a choice for Verizon. Oligopolistic competitors can be very difficult for analysis because they usually make different steps according to the steps of their competitors. Since there are very few competitors in the market, it is very important for oligopolists to bring their actions in accordance with the actions of the competitors. Oligopolists also often sign various agreements with one another in order to control the market. For example, I often see that when T-Mobile introduces new offers, Verizon follows this company with very similar offers. Since I am a consumer, the knowledge of microeconomics can greatly help me to take a choice in different type of the market. Another concept of microeconomics which I am destined to face is externalities. I often read in newspapers how government does its best to take care of various kinds of externalities. I know many plants which pollute water and atmosphere, and in my opinion, it is very good that government makes such companies pay higher taxes or install purifying systems in order to eliminate the impact of its pollution. In conclusion, it is necessary to say that microeconomics is one of the disciplines the concepts of which can be seen everywhere. The knowledge of these concepts helps me to make smarter choices in life and understand different phenomena better. All of the consumer decisions are being made on the micro level, and that is why it is very important for every person to have a deep knowledge of microeconomic concepts. Bibliography. Durkheimââ¬â¢s discourse defines social facts as, â⬠¦a category of facts with very distinctive characteristics: it consists of ways of acting, thinking and feeling, external to the individual, and endowed with a power of coercion, by reason of which they control him. (Durkheim 3) Thus the three main features of social facts are surfaced; as being external to the individual, emanating from a general and higher level than the individual and that these coerce or force an individual to act in accordance to them for the purpose of control. These facts, according to Durkheim, must be considered things, which he defines as realities that may be observed and classified. These things are posited to exist on the level of society, completely outside the realm of the individual and are used to control a personââ¬â¢s thoughts, actions and feeling from being otherwise. Should a person refuse to submit to this coercion, he would find himself the object of negative reactions ranging from ridicule, isolation or even concrete punishment or sanction. The implications of this definition initially cast sociologyââ¬â¢s field of study as all-encompassing, referring to all realities and processes of human life and behavior, thus Durkheim seeks to clarify and establish the meaning of the descriptor ââ¬Ësocialââ¬â¢ as opposed to other adjectives such as ââ¬Ëbiologicalââ¬â¢, psychologicalââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëphilosophicalââ¬â¢. Each individual drinks, sleeps, eats, reasons; and it is societyââ¬â¢s interest that these functions be exercised in an orderly manner. If then, all these facts are counted as ââ¬Å"socialâ⬠facts, sociology would have no subject matter exclusively its own, and its domain would be confused with biology and psychology. (Durkheim 1) As mentioned above, Durkheim perceives the social fact as the scope of sociological study, and uses other fields of study to show what sociology should underscore. Biological facts and study deal with characteristics of the physical body of a person and are therefore not social, since the need to follow these facts (such as sleeping, eating and breathing) emanate from the physiological needs of an organism to survive. Psychological study deals with thought processes and phenomena that occur within an individualââ¬â¢s consciousness. Durkheim posits that ââ¬Ësocialââ¬â¢ facts emanate not from one personââ¬â¢s consciousness nor from a personââ¬â¢s physiological needs, but from the level of society itself, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ this term [social] fits them quite well, for it is clear that, since their source is not the individual, their substratum can be no other than society. â⬠(Durkheim 3) Another implication of his definition is that social facts exist only with the presence of social institutions which enforce them and create them. For Durkheim, it is imperative to clarify that in most cases a social institution exists with the social fact, but it must not be thought that for a social fact to exist, a social institution must be present to have created it. Rather, the reverse of the causation is in place. Social facts create social institutions which enforce and perpetuate them, but there are also other social facts which do not require the presence of an institution to sanction them. Durkheim defines such deinstitutionalized social facts as ââ¬Ësocial currentsââ¬â¢, ââ¬Å"They come to each one of us from without and carry us away in spite of ourselves. â⬠(4) He uses the example of crowd euphoria and feeling to illustrate these. Social facts are further classified into the ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬Ëpathologicalââ¬â¢. Durkheim classifies social facts under these two categories in order to illustrate the coercive nature of social facts and how society has been shaped to perpetuate and enforce them. Normal social facts refer to ââ¬Å"those which conform to given standardsâ⬠while pathological social facts refer to ââ¬Å"those which ââ¬Ëoughtââ¬â¢ to be differentâ⬠(Durkheim 47). Normal social facts are those most widely occurring in the society in question and function in such a way that their presence maintains social order and accepted social life. Durkheim further posited that for a social fact to be considered normal, it would contribute to the health of a society, as mentioned earlier, it maintains accepted social processes, it promotes and is naturally coherent with accepted social norms. The vague nature of this definition and its subjectivity was borne from Durkheimââ¬â¢s goal of trying to contextualize and take into consideration the diversity of social life across different cultures and societies. This implies the existence of facts that are produced to control people to act in accordance to accepted norms and values, and the existence of facts whose purpose is to illustrate what is a deviation from the previously-mentioned accepted norms and values. The characteristic of social facts that posits a force that coerces people to adhere to them is what required Durkheim to make this categorization. He defined social facts as things, as realities, and thus he would seek to define the normal and the abnormal things and realities that are placed under the domain of what are considered ââ¬Ësocialââ¬â¢. If social facts exist outside the individual and are imposed upon him, what of the phenomenon that occur which are deviations from the norm, how are these to be explained as sociological when they do not adhere to society? Pathological social facts are therefore things or realities that occur in less cases than the normal social facts to show that these things are what are considered ââ¬Ëabnormalââ¬â¢ or have some form of ââ¬Ëmorbidityââ¬â¢ that characterizes them as deviations. Durkheim compared this analogy with physiological studies, which first deal with a healthy, ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ human body and then would study the ââ¬Ëabnormalitiesââ¬â¢ of the body, the possible symptoms and causes of sickness or ââ¬Ëmorbidityââ¬â¢. As the physiologist studies diseases within the human body, so does a sociologist study the pathological or ââ¬Ëmorbidââ¬â¢ phenomenon that occurs outside the individualââ¬â¢s consciousness. Another argument that Durkheim presents in defining the normal social fact is that ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ phenomena are often present not because of social norms and values but because of logical necessity. He argues that normal facts differ across species, but these facts are present mostly because the species has to adapt to its environment and are necessary (Durkheim 60) Rejecting other definitions of normal facts, Durkheim posited that normal facts are relative to the specific species in question during a specific time in its evolutional phase. Normal facts are therefore not permanent nor are they universal. He emphasizes this because of his previous statements that because of the normalcy and frequency of these facts they are attributed to be superior in nature. Durkheim decides what constitutes ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ social facts by evaluating the causal conditions that govern a certain fact. If, at a certain point in the societyââ¬â¢s development, the social fact is acceptable, then the fact is normal. An example would be the practice of a girl asking a boy to engage in a social, romantic relationship with her. In these modern times, this is considered a normal fact because of the rise of female empowerment and liberalism. However, if this social fact was to be classified during the Renaissance period, it would have been classified as abnormal, because women did not enjoy empowerment or the same power they enjoy today. A social factââ¬â¢s nature is intrinsic to societyââ¬â¢s norms and causal functions that create it at a certain point in time, and not with the wideness of occurrence or moral acceptability. Durkheim takes into account how social facts may change their nature as normal and pathological over time, especially through the process of evolution, ââ¬Å"After having established by observation that a particular fact is general, he will go back to the conditions which determined this generality in the past and will then investigate whether these conditions are still given in the present or if, on contrary they have changed. â⬠(Durkheim 61) Contention between the two types of social fact and the rough definition that Durkheim posited may be seen in the presence of crime within a society. Crime, at first glance would be characterized as a pathological social fact, as it would feature morbidity and abnormality. This is a common perception that all criminologists would adhere to. However, crime is posited by Durkheim as a normal social fact. Durkheim showed that crime is present in all societies but in different forms, as normal and pathological facts differ across societies and evolutionary phases (65). He further stated that even in societies where crime rate is high and incidences rampant, a change may occur depending on the future state of the society which will lessen the rate of normalcy of crime (66). Crime for Durkheim is separate and different from criminal behavior and criminal acts, since these are able to be explained on levels other than on the societal. Thus Durkheim posited that the act of doing a criminal deed is not what is normal, but the presence of crime within society which is normal (67). The presence of deviations from the norm may be seen in all societies, but since the act in itself is brought about by psychological reasons and other factors that may be apparent on the individual level, criminal behavior may be part sociological and part psychological. Crime is posited to be variant and subjective across cultures and societies, and is always present no matter how rigid the norms in a society are. Crime is defined in a society based on the norms and values it holds in importance. Durkheimââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëcollective conscienceââ¬â¢ that governs society is what is held responsible for defining the criminal act. Again, in an effort to take into account the diversity of societies, Durkheim posits crime as subjective and dependent on social norms, with the level of tolerance of the society in question dictating what is considered crime and what is considered aberrant or curious behavior worthy or mere ridicule and oddity. Crime is always present in any society no matter how ordered and rigid it is, but with the higher control present in a society, the level of the sophistication of crime and the intricacy and effort used in committing a criminal act increases as well, in relation to the difficulty in crime commission. Statistics may then be inferred by the student to be one concrete manifestation of a social fact because of its nature of describing trends and social phenomenon, but Durkheim posited otherwise. He posited that statistics is used to represent the ââ¬Ëcollective mindââ¬â¢ which is the sum of the individual cases that adhere to social facts, whether normal or pathological. Statistics is used to isolate these specific trends. Though individual cases no doubt have other mitigating biological and psychological factors for occurring, statistics provides a way to neutralize or eliminate the individualistic factors that may constitute the cases as not within the realm of sociology. Durkheim justifies the normalcy of crime in a given society by citing that there is not society where crime is not present. Criminal acts are always regarded with negative sentiments in any society (Durkheim 66). However, Durkheim showed that the presence of crime affirms the normal social facts, that it enforces the normal by existing as a source of punishment for its own commission. In a society that has the strictest and most rigid structure of rules and normal fact that must be adhered to at all times, crime is not entirely eliminated but actually more apparent, more frowned-upon and more heavily sanctioned. Thus, the presence of crime is considered normal and the commission of criminal acts is pathological. With all this said about the social fact, the idea of a ââ¬Ësocial systemââ¬â¢ would create some contentions. Social facts are thought to emanate from the societal level through a collective consciousness, where the individual is forced to conform and adhere to. A social system would imply that the relationship between individuals and society would not be so linear and one-sided. A social system would imply that as society exerts a force on the individual, so does an individual upon society. Durkheimââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëcollective consciousnessââ¬â¢ would then be debunked as an illusion which is perpetuated in society. A systems framework for sociological study would then take into consideration the effect of individuals in society as social institutions and structures that are composed of individuals. Durkheimââ¬â¢s theory on social fact would then be debunked as emanating from an illusion and would lose its objectivity and its characteristic of being grounded on reality. But, above all, the aspect of the play is most impressive and overwhelming with imagery and symbolism that Shakespeare so brilliantly uses. Throughout the play, the author depicts various types of imagery and symbolism instances that, eventually, lead to the downfall of the main character, Macbeth. Instances of imagery and symbolism are seen throughout the play. Imagery and symbolism are unavoidable features in William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Macbeth. The main target audience for these movies are little impressionable girls. Every movie from 1937, Snow White, to 2017, Moana, has garnered a lot of attention from children everywhere, especially young females, and leaves a lasting imprint on each and every one. There have been many critics saying that the franchise leaves negative impressions on little girls. They believe that the Disney princess plots promotes sexism. They believe that these characters are oppressed. While I do agree with that to a certain extent, I also believe that if we analyze these princesses a little bit more closely we canâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Belle could have settled down with any man in her town, but she waited for the one she was most compatible with and the one that possess all of the qualities she was looking for. Now some critics may say that the love spawned between the beast and Belle was a product of Stockholm syndrome but there is no evidence of it being such. Belle was given freedom and she decided to stay and when she did come back it was to save the beast. And her attitude changed when she saw the beast for who he truly was. Disney princess culture also teaches little girls to chase their dreams, despite what challenges they are faced with. All of the Disney princesses have many goals and ambitions that were not just to be ââ¬Å"in loveâ⬠. However, after securing an internship last summer to work as a trainee trader, I finally realized which path I was going to take to advance my career. Working and receiving training from experienced traders; my eyes got caught by graphics and trading actions. I spent most of my days in the office conducting trade on trial accounts as I learned how it is done. After some time, I realized that this was where my passion lies; thus I wanted to become a trader, and later advance to an analyst. Decisions made and Ambition As my interests of becoming a trader have intensified, I have decided to choose Financial Maths as one of my option this year. This is attributed to the fact that I enjoy Mathematics. I have never been extremely eager to discover something as I am with Maths. I answer questions in class, I read books in my leisure time, I am keen on discussing it with my colleagues, I love solving difficult problems on it, I do research on relevant stuff, which are not covered in lectures, just to mention but a few. These entire efforts enable me attain full marks in every assignment I am assigned. I became an asset to my colleagues who sought for assistance in Financial Maths. This always excited me as I ventured into my looks in pursuit of the unknown. I never thought anything could give me confidence as it does. I do not study when under the exam pressure anymore, instead, I desire to learn about Maths every day. Pricing, hedging, arbitrage, options, forwards...all this terms excite me since they give me the desire to do real trades. However, in as much as I am good in Mathematics; I need to prepare myself since trading is a highly intense and risky industry. That explains my decision to pursue Finance related course for my Master degree. I am confident that additional knowledge in that field would enable me develop skills of statistics and computation. I believe that I will not only be a qualified trader, but also an individual who develop his own analysis of the trading methods. To enter the finance industry, there are lots of different routes. Diversity backgrounds are being considered, but why do I choose Mathematical trading and Finance ? Mathematical skills are needed to build up finance. Since Markowitz claimed payoff by random variable in 1952, the top financial articles are difficult to tell from Mathematics dissertation. After that, in 1973, as a result of the invention of Black-Scholes formula, mathematical methods are used to value options, as well as replicate portfolio and duplicate derivatives. Mathematical skills are extremely crucial to both the understanding and invention in finance industry. Besides, highly quantitative skills are needed in being an analyst, which is my career plan. Therefore, Mathematical Finance and Stochastic Calculus, Quantitative Asset Pricing, Numerical Methods in VBA module in this course will be extremely useful to my career. This implies that by seeking a chance to study Financial Maths, my actions are not pegged following what other people are doing, but following my heartââ¬â¢s desire. I have got several both A*s in Maths, an A in physics in A-levels along with the undergraduate study in Maths with an exceptionally high quality pass at UCL. I believe that I have built quantitative skills that are compatible to the courseââ¬â¢s requirement. Moreover, I have already studied Binomial model, Brownian motion, Stochastic calculus, Black-Scholes equation, Itoââ¬â¢s lemma and Feyman-kac in the current financial Maths module which will help me with the further study. Academic achievements I did not do well during my first two years as a student, and I attained an overall score of 58. However, achieving a second-class upper division for my first degree was not a problem. This is attributed to the fact that I gave lots of concentration in the third and second year. In order to prepare myself for the further study, I have fully developed the basic skills in analysis, algebra and mathematical methods such as the curriculum setting in the undergraduate study. I am also equipped me the quantitive and analytical skills to cope with the further study. I would love to pursue these modules; Logic, International Business, Computation Methods, just to mention but a few. My major would be Mathematics since it will help me in my thinking when studying for other subjects. This is because mathematics is not only a subject with quantitive skills, but also a qualitative subject teaching people how to think in logical ways. This helps people to remember knowledge, as well as solve probl ems independently. Having studied management briefly, I am trained to co-operate with others in group work, as well as perform as a leader who can direct and allocate jobs for members with different abilities. Therefore, I believe my interests are compatible with this master course. Work experience As I have already mentioned, I went on an international financial trainee programme in the past summer. During the first 2 weeks, I got a trainee position by an academic department in AXA Group Hong Kong, the following 2 weeks being an intern in AXA insurance Ltd., Hong Kong and 4 weeks being an intern in Emperor Financial Service Group Hong Kong, which is one of the biggest financial service company in Hong Kong with their own trading platform being listed in Hong Kong stock exchange market. In the first 2 weeks, we learnt an intense course on finance, including mortgage, fund, stock market, currency, interest rate, trend lines and chart analysis and stochastic. During the 2 weeks at AXA insurance Ltd, I was working in a group to analyze the existing investment insurance products of AXA which include, researching performance of funds in product portfolio concentrated on those from Picket funds, Barings equity management and Fidelity investment; analyzing profit or loss of both of the company and customer. Moreover, I had some training on marketing skills and also did a presentation of products to customers. The following 4 weeks at Emperor, I had an extremely valuable experience as I was allocated a current employee who needed to be trained on the trading skills specialized in gold futures. With the chart analysis, mainly using Trend lines and channels, Wave theory and Fibonacci series combined with different trading strategy. I was awarded a third place of a mock account competition on the trading platform with a roughly 20% profitability, and earning/loss ratio of a single transaction was 4:1. Which was a healthy profit earning way, proves that I was not only able to make a profit, but also had a reasonable risk management ability. Little extras I was selected by CSSA (Chinese Student and Scholar Association) of UCL as a committee in my first year. However, I could not bear due to their working by favoritism, clique and misuse of authority, among others. I established a private organization with friends and organized activities which favored by many Chinese students. The most successful one was a party visited by more than 600 people and made nearly 10,000 pounds profit. Therefore, I worked as a cooperator with CSSA thereafter, produced other profitable parties, charity concerts and Chinese New Year Gala. I am confident that I am ready to move on to the next stage of my academic career. May you consider my application by judgement of achievements and abilities in all aspects. I will prove myself in case Cass Business School offers me a chance to study MSc Mathematical Trading Finance. I earnestly look forward to hearing from you. WootonTaking the High RoadThe unexamined life is not worth living, In The Apology, Socrates relates that the most important goal in life is the improvement of the soul. We should search others, our environment, and ourselves so that we may come to a better understanding of the world. The Parable of the Cave tells of the journey that Socrates was trying to relate, in that each person is faced with different realities as we travel to try and reach the intellectual world. This journey of enlightenment draws close parallels to another piece of literature by Robert Frost. In his poem The Road Not Taken, he describes how he felt as he came upon the fork in the road and chose to take the road less traveled and that has made all the difference. The use of life as a journey is nothing new to literature, but with Plato and Frost both show that this journey is not easy and there are many choices along the way that we must make that will determine the quality of the l ife we will lead. The main factor that drew me to the Parable of the Cave was the way it described our journey through life. It begins by telling us that the reality we initially see when we are chained down in the cave is nothing more than an illusion. This is true in my own life in that I was told by my parents what was right and what was wrong without questioning the reason behind it. They kept a chain of sorts around me so that I was not harmed by all of the realities of the world at once, but rather gradually introduced to them as I grew up. As we are released from bondage, our reality is immediately changed. When we first look toward the light we will suffer sharp pains; as we try to adjust to this new reality that is suddenly thrown upon us. The bondage that we experienced in the beginning is no longer there and the full weight of the world is pressed down on us without the help of others and now responsibility for our own actions becomes the controlling factor in our life. The light that first shocked us into reality now causes you to come to a crossroads in life. Looking directly at the light will cause some pain and suffering, but offers a clearer vision or turn away and take refuge in the objects of vision which he can see and return to the reality of which he was accustomed, but is only an illusion. Many people are scared to face reality and would rather turn back to the shelter that they are comfortable with. Independence and freedom are things these people could live without, so long as they had someone to lead them. Unfortunately, the majority of people fall into this category. They become sheep and require a shepherd to guide them through their lives. The others who can overcome the blinding light are able to ask of themselves what they are trying to accomplish in their lifetime. They may make mistakes along the way, but because they had the strength to try, are able to learn from those mistakes and become more intelligent as they age. Those th at never leave the depths of the cave remain in an illusion. Ignorance is bliss, and these people never want to have to struggle with their lives, but would rather remain without the responsibility the new knowledge would bring them if they were to walk towards the light. .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb , .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .postImageUrl , .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb , .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:hover , .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:visited , .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:active { border:0!important; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:active , .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc58d818c5099eaa74c47ba5dc2448fdb:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Virus Invaders EssayThe light allows us to see things more clearly and this is the goal that we are trying to reach in our lifetime, but are almost assured of failing. Why then should you constantly fight toward this goal over adversity and hardship only to fail in the end? The journey is the most important part of the trip, not the destination. The things learned along the way will make your life more fulfilling and enjoyable. The Parable of the Cave shows how this journey can be related to our own lives and the struggles we face throughout our lifetime. The journey talked of in The Parable of the Cave has many parallels with the poem by Robert Frost entitled The Road Not Taken. The last line of the poem reads, I took the road not taken and that has made all the difference. The road usually taken is the easy road, the road that is the most comfortable to us. This road keeps us ignorant because we never seek to gain more knowledge by searching and asking questions. I chose to represent the Parable of the Cave by visually showing the poem by Frost. It begins on a road that is surrounded by foliage. This acts to shelter you from the harmful world. The foliage shelters you until you come to a fork in the road. The road ahead of you is clear of any obstacles for as far as you can see. The other road to your right begins with a hill and you can not see what lies ahead. At this fork you must make a decision to continue straight ahead on the clear path, or take a chance and climb that hill to see what is on the other side. The clear path is representative of the path that most people will take, the easy road. This road continues with no obstacles because th at is what you have seen all of your life and are comfortable with this arrangement. Taking this road would be the same as returning to the depths of the cave once you were blinded by the light. The road to the right represents the continuance toward the light at the cave mouth discussed by Plato. This road had obstacles that will impede your path and slow you down, but do not stop you from continuing on to the end. The hills are the trials we must face in life if we are trying to obtain knowledge. The knowledge does not come without consequences, however, and you must go through trying times (whether it be self-examination, examination of others, or examination of the environment around you) before you can move ahead. Whichever road we decide to take, the end result is the same, death. The roads lead to the same destination, but the paths to that destination are very different. This is representative of the course of life that each of us must take, some paths are easier than others , but the more difficult path leads to a more fulfilling life. The Parable of the Cave shows the major steps in life that we are all faced with. Those who choose to turn away from the light would not lead a fulfilling life in the eyes of Plato or Socrates. Those that choose to continue toward the light take all the responsibility that comes with that choice. By continuing toward the light they continue to enlightenment. In order to reach enlightenment, we must question ourselves and our motives and in doing so will face more trying and pressing times than those who choose to return to a place that they are comfortable with. Frosts poem The Road Not Taken very much parallels the thoughts expressed by Plato. We are faced with many choices in life. The fork in the road represents those choices we are faced with and once they are made, there is no turning back. The mistakes made along the way may cause use to stumble or slow down, but the journey to the end is much more fulfilling if we are willing to take the road less traveled, for it too could ma ke all the difference.
